The DS didn't really ever struggle. Sales weren't HUGE at the start - then "new" games were released. Once Nintendogs, Mario Kart & NSMB were out - the pattern was set. That was well into the first year on the market.
The DS is the anti-PS3. Its the complete opposite, in every conceivable way. Including sales...
