i doubt the ps3 price cut will have big impact, because it will still be the most expensive console.
why will people get an expensive ps3 compare to a cheaper xbox 360 with stronger game lineup.

Sony outsells the 360 at a $100 price differential, the 360 outsells the PS3 at a $200 price differential.  These facts can be supported by the sales of each console over the last 12 months.

The 200$ price difference only happened twice: the first time, the ps3 was being sold for 599$; the second time the 360 reached the 199$ treshold.

It did happen twice, although the PS3 has always had a $500 offering.  Originally with the 20 gig and currently with the 160 gig.  The 360 outsold the PS3 during both time periods.  It is clear that the PS3 cannot compete with the 360 at a $200 differential.  If they don't close the gap soon, they may not be able to compete with the $100 differential.

Both were rather residual SKU's... sony barely supplied the 20gb sku and for all we know the 400$ sku is their biggest seller by far. I'm not saying your conclusions from the data at hand are necessarily incorrect, just that there other variables in play and we'd require a bigger pool of data to achieve solid conclusions about what's the frontier price for the switchover in demand (if anyone knows the proper economic terminology for the concepts, feel free to correct it).
