If you read what I said in the original thread, you would know that I said HDDVD has higher margins than Bluray.

This does not mean that production cost is the only factor. One of the issues is the licensing fees associated with selling movies on either format. HDDVD is cheaper than Bluray in this regard, and seems to be far more willing to make deals that are favorable to the movie studios. This is part of the reason why HDDVD is what most indie films are appearing on. Basically, look at the bigger picture - DVD's cost comes from more than the replication.

And I still think the potential Wal-mart sub 200 HDDVD player could have been a big motivator.
