There is a big difference between DVD and Blu Ray. Cmon people, think of all that Raw HD Uncompressed data!

What raw HD uncompressed data?  In NTSC format DVD typically stores 720x480p video data using MPEG-2 compression, while Blu-Ray stores 1920x1080p video data using MPEG-4 or VC-1 comression.  The bit rate of the audio and video data on a DVD-Video maxes out at about 9.8 Mbps, while that on a Blu-Ray, it maxes out at about 48 Mbps.  Since Blu-Ray is storing about 6 times more video data, it can be argued that it is actually storing a more compressed version of the data than DVD-Video (although use of a newer codec means the bitrate is actually being used more efficiently)
