The demo felt short because the demo is short.  After where you stop in the demo you still have some more outside, sewers, more outside, a very long hospital area (that is incredible), and then the finale.

The demo was easy but the actual game is much harder and the area between safe spots gets much longer.

 

Exactly, demos never give more than a small taste of the bigger picture.

Secondly, this game on expert mode is just about as challenging as any game has ever been in my opinion. 

Oh yeah, and the Level 5 hospital area finale is incredible!  My favorite part of the game bar-none.
