Well, seems you frequent RPGFan as much as me. I read that article too, but I can't comment much on it since I only played one Tales (Legendia), but it fitted perfectly the description (specially the plot part), which has left me wondering if all the Tales are too similar.
Still, I don't know, but Legendia was barely decent, so it's not a game that as motivated me to try more games of the seires (though most people have said to me that Legendia is one of the weakest)
