man i would put zelda there, or maybe cod series, both above halo in my book for overrated, and derivative. 

 

Zelda INVENTED its genre, how is that derivative?  Halo is just another shooter with really nothing new brought to the table.  Its been done a million times before, and much better as well.

 

i was leaning more to zelda is overrated, but there were fantasy adventure games before zelda, some very fun ones on the pc, though most at that time were text based, a few graphics based... or what ever you consider it. and dirivtive in the fact that the works flow without stepping to far out of bounds, unless you count the zelda on the cdi... god that was awful i regret even demoing that back in the day....   halo, eh it might be another shooter, but it has not been around nearly as long, and i enjoyed the story, something i can say i never got into with zelda, though that is personal taste there. 

 

 If anything, I can kinda see the logic in calling Zelda iterative, but certainly not derivative.  Zelda was absolutely unique when it came out, it just had a common theme to some text-based adventure games. 

If you feel it is over rated, I can't argue the point there, as that is certainly your opinion to have, but I don't really think Zelda can be called derivative.
