Yeah, I've always just picked which one I preferred. The game is about trying to eliminate which you like more, so naturally, the one you liked more of the two would have been eliminated "first". It's the first of the three votes you picked, right? So it'd be the first eliminated.
Keeping the numbers the same doesn't really mean much, though, other than denoting that they got eliminated in the same turn.
