Cost cutting, probably some reliability but revisions give you a reliability boost generally as a rule. Compare early gen PS2s to mid gen PS2s for your answer there.

How could it be more reliable?

Less heat is a good start, electronics which run cooler generally last longer.

Motherboard/Materials as they tweak areas with the highest % chance of failure.

 

 

 I was only asking becuase people kept going on about this Jasper lark, made it seem like it was something real special.
