Sony - The Pseye. - View Post

As you noticed sony seem to be clueless when it comes to writing software that effectivly uses their hardware or any hardware really.
The ps3eye can't even be used in singstar as a microphone yet it contains an array of 4 built in microphones ! It could do directional noise canceling in theory to provide better performance than a normal microphone and do voice control etc.
Also Toshiba have software for the cell which allows gesture control - usefull for say movie-video playback in appliances (no more searching for the lost remote ) - i dont think sony will ever provide this sort of feature - they could if they were smart though.

The best i have seen from any Ps3eye game is really the most primitive motion detection which is done using frame delta's - amusing but weak.

Same with the sixaxis motion support the OS (dashboard ?) provides zero support of direction tracking as do most games - a better smart OS would allow people to configure the controller including motion support to the players choices in any game as well and proving in game mouse support.

I am actually expecting Microsoft to bring out a Motion controller in their system soon and of course MS know software (unlike sony who are clueless) so I think MS may well do far better moton support than the sixaxis simply by virtue of better software support - they can build it into the OS and provide backward support for all previous games and leave sony or even the Wii in the dust.

It's a sad state of affairs for any PS3 owner - i can only recommend getting a Wii instead if you want innovative software - or wait for the rumoured X360 motion support which could blow the Wii's and Sony's motion support away.

And forget anything novel for the Ps3eye if they were gonna do something more interesting with it they would have by now so it shows they are incapable of innovation. !

what the fuck ? i didn't make the thread to bash the eyes but simply to expand on the knowledge of it's actual capabilities and potential. This isn't about the 360 or the wii. I'm very unimpressed with either microsoft or nintendo.I wouldn't exacly call the wavering of the wii mote innovation either. It's often very unrelated to the actual movement you would be doing in real life.

I don't want to pick your post apart but with all the ps3 bashing and malinformation it's very hard to resist.

I agree with the sixaxis being implemented better.. I have seen some awesome use for it in some games. For instance heavenly sword, where it's arguably the best motion control in any game on any system.

It's all the more reason though, why the ps eye should be explored further.

so to get back on topic, this is about the pseye and it's possibilities.

I still believe it's not too late for sony, and that they might wake up and realise the potential of their product. If implemented as a feature in most games (as of now, it is often a feature, but it's very limited) with aditional motion tracking, then combined with the sixaxis, or the headset, it could make for some epic gaming experiences, heck, even on it's own.

For instance, take a game where you stand up infront of it, it reads your entire body, you desegnate areas of your body to the cam. Like hands, feet etc. It then recreates a rigid body version of you, so that when you move, it registers certain points in your body that moves along. This could provide for the ultimate immersive gaming ever, like real boxing where every move would be analysed to the exact power and meassurement. Since it is a camera, it could even include you in the game, instead of dolls. With a 3d picture...

I mean it's all very advanced, but with the designed software for it i really think the pseye in combination with the ps3 could provide some awesome gaming experiences that tops what the wii or any other product on the market is capable of (in terms of motion sensing)
