You want R2 to have sold a million units in two weeks without Others? It's more than six times what the first Resistance opened to in NA. It sold more than five times in Others what it sold in NA. LBP was a new IP, it could go either way. And to the casual observer, it was a 2D sidescroller, (where you control a little thing made of cloth) most of which you have to make yourself. SOCOM was on PSN, and opened to horrible reviews thanks to the overall bugginess at release. MotorStorm 2... well it wasn't particularly good... I didn't say their advertising was a touch on Microsoft's, but it's improving. |
Resistance=It should at least be approaching a million in the US after two weeks. It's the premiere FPS exclusive on the console and it got it's ass handed to it by Call of Duty multiple times over. In fact most of the best selling fall titles on PS3 have been multiplats. Why shouldn't it be able to do one million in two weeks in one region? Isn't it a big title? A headlining title? Sony sees fit to put it squarely against Gears of War every two years, so they must see something in the franchise. Maybe if Sony advertised for R2 as aggressively as Microsoft advertises for Gears then R2 may be a comparable franchise in sales figures.
Little Big Planet=It should have done better. Maybe it would have if Sony didn't botch the launch. That in itself is a reflection of their inability to market correctly. Pulling the launch was a bad decision, and frankly I saw LBP commercials on all the wrong channels. Why am I seeing LBP on ESPN, but not Nickelodeon? Sony themselves said they wanted to make Sackboy the face of Playstation, so I can bet they were thinking of this title doing more than it has thus far.
SOCOM=It's a tactical shooter and a sequel to a multimillion selling franchise. Don't make excuses for it. No one knew about the server issues until it was purchased, so obviously the first week wasn't going to turn out so hot in the first place.
Motorstorm 2=It did just fine on reviews, so I don't see your point. It is a racer that failed miserably in both the US and in PAL terrirtories, and that shouldn't have happened.
Try not to make excuses and really look at things here. We are on the third holiday for PS3 and we are looking at a Fall software lineup underperforming across the board, with no exceptions. There is a problem here, and it's either advertising or Sony is frankly publishing the wrong titles that fit the PS3 demographic's interests. If they can't sell Resistance 2 like hot cakes, how do you expect them to sell Killzone 2? How well is Infamous going to do honestly looking at past titles? Sony is in a pickle because they have one headlining franchise that pulls in the massive dough(Gran Turismo) and it's going to be four holidays from launch until it comes out. None of these new titles have any real pull. They are being swept under the rug sales wise by multiplatform titles Sony is sharing and selling worse in, with 360 and PC. Nintendo and Microsoft both have multiple showcase titles that bring in some big cash, and they have all been released on a yearly basis.
Explain to me how Nintendo's 6 month old releases of Smash Bros., Wii Fit and Mario Kart are all still outselling Sony's new first party releases. Explain how 360's second biggest exclusive for Fall, Fable 2, is selling on par with all four combined Sony fall titles. So again I ask, is it the advertising or is Sony making the wrong games(from a sales perspective)?
