Geometry Wars Reaches One Million Players
There might actually be more gamers at war with Geometry than there are people in Rhode Island.

What started out as an addictive minigame in Project Gotham Racing 2 is now a full-fledged success in its own right; developer Bizarre Creations is celebrating their Xbox Live Arcade shooter Geometry Wars hitting the one millionth player mark today.
Bizarre is quick to clarify that this figure is cultivated from the combined leaderboards of both the original game and Geometry Wars 2, so anyone who's played both will be counted twice. Also, anybody with multiple accounts on the same Xbox could end up being counted more than once, and users who acquired the game via a compilation disc might not be counted at all if they lack Live accounts. The DS and Wii versions are obviously not included in these leaderboards, either.
Fuzzy math or not, that's still a ton of people getting their twin-stick shooter on. If a million users sounds like a relatively small number compared to games like World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King -- which sold 2.8 million in a day -- then it's worth pointing out that the metrics for success on the Xbox Live Marketplace are quite different from your average retail game. It wasn't that long ago when Space Giraffe's developer Jeff Minter was happy to get 10,000 downloads of his XBLA game.
Imagine not having GamePass on your console...
