Ok, going off the most popular franchises, and taking the most recognisable character from each (if any)

Actually, there's a 7/10 match there.
Pikachu should be in the top 5, it's the 2nd most popular series ever. Donkey Kong also deserves recognition for bringing gaming to the masses.
Kick out Spyro and Snake - they're not particularly well known
