Despite claims that Dems are socialists, most are slightly to the left of center. I think a coalition with republicans on issues will keep them from having to go Left-wing, while appearing to compromise. Republicans who go with Democrats will keep their seats in 2010 and will be the only ones left to rebuild the party.

Yes, Obama said he would look for people from the Republican Party and who are outside of Washington politics, like Geihtner, the favorite for Treasury Secretary.  Also people from the private sector.

Yeah.  Every president plays the "i'm going to nominate a lot of the other guys" arguement.

I think Bush even said that... and he didn't seem to nominate anyone he didn't know since at least college.
