Well they're not all connected by story actually.  So maybe it'd be better to go with 3 now that i think of it.

It's the easiest to find.

Actually Persona 4 is about to come out too....

Also it's not really the first one.  Persona is just the most popular of the Shin Megami franchise.  There are re-releases of the originals on the PS1-PS2 as well.

The originals actually being out on SNES... (or maybe even one before on NES.)

 

 

Gimme a breakdown. The only "Shin Megami Tensei" I'm familiar with is Nocturne, and that only by name.

So the best game to pick up would be Persona 3? Is it just the bst gme in the series?

Get Nocturne. It's arguably the best the in the series. The game has so much freedom and a very interesting story. Pretty much every action you take affects the ending. The game is pretty difficult at times and a little cheap (one hit kills), but it makes you really strategize your moves rather than pressing attack everytime.

OT: I don't think reviewers are biased. Most of their reviews are spot-on, and I pretty much agree with them. They really brought nothing new to JRPGs. Lost Odyssey feels like something I've played ten years ago. Eternal Sonata was average. Lame story, same enemies over and over and I didn't like the battle system. Disgaea 3 was the weakest one in the series. I didn't really notice any difference compared to the previous. The story was eh. Maybe you're the one who's biased.
