To be perfectly honest...no not really. When I look at features and quality and technicality, Western RPGs have the upper hand. Like, when comparing Lost Odyssey to Oblivion. Oblivion has a different battle system, but in overall depth and possibilities it wins out hands down.
That said, I think Western reviewers shouldn't be so pissy about the flaws they point out in JRPGs, and that JRPGs are better for obviously different reasons. Vesperia has too many skit scenes that take away from the graphics? What the honest f***, IGN? Don't you even know they are OPTIONAL?
GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.
