My guess is : with more and more 360 users deflecting to the PS3 for Christmas (right after they get to play Halo3), and Sony's line up which has more than 5 hit games coming up to this holiday season (Heavenly Sword, Ratchet & Clank, Warhawk, Haze, Uncharted, Unreal Tournament III) and the games to come in 2008 we all heard about (LittleBigPlanet, MGS4, Killzone 2, FF XIII and FF versus XIII, GT5, GTA4, etc.), all in all this will unquestionably result in a massive boost in PS3 sales.
The part about people deflecting to PS3 is not made up, go to the official Xbox forum and you'll see how frustrated people are becoming with their Xbox and MS attitude.
