With a progressive picture, all of the scanlines are rendered at once. So, do the math:  1080i: 540 scanlines/cycle 720p: 720 scanlines/cycle  So, as you can see, a 720p display will have more scanlines rendered at any given moment than a 1080i display. The 1080i display will technically be higher-resolution, but you'll see all of the problems associated with an interlaced display as well.  So, try your TV on 720p. I guarantee you'll see a positive difference where HD content is concerned. |
