Valid points for most but the only part I disagree personally with is the local multiplayer. Me and my friends have made it a regular event to have LAN's where we play local games with each other. Depending on your situation you may not have explored everything it has but it's one of the best local gaming experiences in a console I've ever had.

It seems a lot of us who used to lug PC's all over have consolidated down to 360 making it a lot easier for us to get together.

What Co-op games do you recomend? I have only had a 360 for 4 months so while I am kinda knoledgable about Xbox in general, I am no expert.

Games I know about

-Worms XBLA

-Halo 3

- Castle Crashers XBLA

-Tales of Vesperia

- Geometry Wars 2

all have useful co-op. What other games are good? I have no interest in gears or left 4 dead though.

I'll just give an opinion of what I like and what we play together.

Retail Games

Halo 3 - This one is probably one of the biggest games we play together.  From just 2 people all the way up to 16 you can have a good time getting together for matches.  I've had instances where we'll end up playing just this together all night and nothing else.  I know Halo isn't everybody's cup of tea but you have to give it to Bungie for creating a game that is so easy and accessable to pick up for both local and online play.

Rock Band 1/2 - Music games may not be your fancy but they are very addicting and fun for a group of people.  I just had a get together at my brother-in-laws last night where we played Rock Band pretty much all night.  Our Rock Band sessions have convinced 2 of my family members to purchase Xbox 360's and got his wife into playing games who was never into them before.  If you invest in one just pick up the sequel and rent the first game for the $5 transfer fee of the RB1 songs.  I think together we're around 250 songs.  New content keeps the series fresh even after a year+

Gears 2 - I know you said you're not interested but the 2nd installment is soooo fun to play together on Horde mode and multiplayer is pretty fun as well.  We played the first one sporatically before but the 2nd improved in almost every aspect.

Left 4 Dead - Same as above lol.  We played the demo last night with 3 other people and it was amazing.  Even if you didn't like the demo maybe rent the game for a LAN or with friends online.  A game completely geared towards co-op play shouldn't be completely ignored.  Valve is a top tier developer and it shows imo.

Soul Calibur 4, Virtua Fighter 5, Dead or Alive 4, Tekken 6 (coming soon), Street Fighter 4 (coming soon) - 3D fighters aren't the thing for everyone but still a great time for people that are.  Just about every major series is represented here on 360.  This is the genre IMO that should ONLY be played local vs online.  Soul Calibur is probably the most accessible of the bunch.

Scene It? - If you're a movie fan this is lots of fun.  I took film in college and my best friend's mother is a professor in film so we like these games.  We have a couple others who play every once in a while together too.  The DVD based board games are garbage compared to these.  I'm actually looking forward to Box Office Smash :P

Army of Two, Earth Defense Force 2017 - I'd put these in the B-grade territory of games but still a decent rental. I bought EDF new for $10 and had a good time with it.  It's low budget to the max but still pretty fun.  On another note if you think shooting baddies with a gold plated AK-47 w/ Riot shield is a good time then Army of Two might be worth renting.

XBLA Games

Castle Crashers - Old School beat-em-up fun for the new kids.  If you dropped quarters back in the day for games like Final Fight and X-men Arcade you'll like this game.  4 players on one screen

TMNT 1989 Arcade - See above. This was one of the first games I had a good time with in the arcade.  Doesn't have the huge replayability as the former but still a good investment for $5

Street Fighter 2, Ulitmate MK3, Fatal Fury, Samurai Showdown 2 - 2D fighters FTW. Take your pick they are well represented here.  Rumors of a Marvel vs Capcom 2 rerelease and the upcoming SF2THD will add to this collection

Uno - One of the top selling XBLA titles.  It's Uno for better or worse.  Not a bad deal for what it costs ($5)

Contra/Super Contra - Only 2 players but classic contra is just that.....classic.

Bomberman LIVE - If you've played Bomberman before you've played this.  It's not the strongest entry in the series but still a pretty good time if you get enough people together locally.  Can be all played on one screen (obviously).

There are probably others but just going off my games list and what I've played I've had a good time with all of these.
