IF it's true I don't see this as a negative thing...on the contrary i think that the Core version limiting X360's potential is a much worse issue for the years to come.
Personally i wouldn't see anything wrong EVEN if microsoft decided that some games can be played only with HDD (afterall even today if you don't have an HDD you're cut out from the xbox live experience)...but MS hasn't actually gone that far: you still can play those game, just wih reduced features.
