The thing is, it isn't about the avatars at all. That was just thrown in in an attempt to get some casuals (Microsoft would be stupid not to try and tap that market). The update seems easier to navigate, its got some nice new features and it looks a lot nicer. I didn't hate the old interface, but I like what I've seen of the new one so far. As always some people wont enjoy it, just like how many people don't like the old dashboard.
