Lord N said: The Wii will never see "meaty" titles like Devil May Cry, Tekken, Final Fantasy, Assassin's Creed, Metal Gear, Lost Planet, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, Armored Core, etc.
"Never" is a bad word to use when every week the Wii has more titles in many of these genres announced or released; certainly, many of these games have been awful but it hasn't stopped developers from trying.
Lord N said: Even so, third-parties are not just going to abandon the other two consoles and devote all of their energy to the Wii because: 1) It has substandard hardware 2) It lacks HD 3) Its online service and capabilities are considered to be by far the least impressive. This is probably the most important point taking into account how big online gaming will be this generation. I've no doubts that the Wii will be a successful system, but this craze will probably fizzle out sooner or later due to the fact that it won't have many "epic" games. As for the PS3, the only thing that's really hurting it right now is its price. All of the bad press is practically moot because most people don't go around the net reading every snippet of news article. Even with its super price, it has still managed to sell about the same number of units in the same amount of time as the 360(and would probably have more had it been available in Europe in November, although that's Sony's own fault), so all it really needs is to be at a price point that more people are willing to pay. That being said, a $100 price drop would work wonders because it put the handicapped PS3 at $400, which people don't seem to mind paying.
1) It also has inexpensive development costs and a rapidly growing userbase 2) I was shown (as an example of the greatness of HD) a screenshot from a PS3 fan that was at under 480p and he claimed it was HD. Even the biggest PS3 boosters don't really know or care about HD ... 3) What is the percentage of gamers who have ever taken a console online? What percentage of games released for any platform have Online gameplay?
