As for the Dreamcast, it is alive and well. There are several companies that have titles slated for 2008 releases. From what I understand we are to see more from the guys who brought us "Last Hope."

SEGA was to cancel their production of the GD-ROM's after the 2/2007 which what the same month that "Last Hope" launched, but it seems that there was enough of a buzz still that I haven't heard anything official yet.

Since more games are headed towards the system, it could be that they are only manufacturing limited numbers now. Also, practically all Dreamcasts can play a regular old CD-ROM with a burned image on it, so the new releases might not need the GD-ROM's at all.

Speaking of that, the CD-ROM's allow for tons of the homebrew and underground developers to launch their own works on the system. ( You must play Beats of Rage! ) This is another reason why it loved by many in the community. Essentially it is a console that allows the indy developer a platform to launch their work.

Curiously on top of all that, the online scene is still ajolt for 4x4 evolution, Maximum pool, Quake 3 arena, and Starlancer. Quake 3 being the most popular. The rare broadband adapters will run you $100 on ebay at least. Too bad no one plays Chu Chu rocket online anymore. :(

Also there are some major fan-translations hitting the scene too. For instance Segagaga is being translated to English right now! This game is said to be one of the best hidden gems for the system which actually puts you as the head CEO of SEGA in the near future where SEGA only controls 10% of the market and your job is to expand their influence! Seriously, the irony of life can be so bold sometimes.
