Did you play the sires on "casual"? On casual, the B button works like a dream. On Hardcore it took a couple of tries for me to get through that section, and I played that section with a buddy on Insane and we had to re-try it multiple times.
I didn't dislike the Worm part as much as you did, but you know, to each his own. I thought the box section handled like a shoebox on square wheels also, but fortunately that hallway was short.
I did find the reveals (story wise) in the facility to be the most enlightening though...
