Look at game development budgets, compared to total gross income from individual games over the years, and you will know why games cost *at least* $60. The profit margins are a lot slimmer than they used to be.
Sadly, HD gaming costs too much to develop for. The fierce competition to beat the other guy's tech has gotten so bloody that no one really "wins" any more... not the developer, not the publisher, and especially not the consumer.
