I think people are mainly uncomfortable with this situation because of their perception that foster kids living with same-sex parents would confuse them while growing up. The fact is that things are changing and as a country, the laws need to be adjusted to that change, regardless of how resistant various religions are to the change.
I'm a Christian myself but don't see how restricting people's civil rights is productive to a positive and growing society.
