The Disney characters are what made me buy the game (well, I got it as a gift but I wanted it). I thought it was a RPG starring the Disney character. I was extremely disappointed and pissed when I realized you control the lame Sora which got to be one of the worst video game character of all time. The story of the first game sucked hard but it was really fun to visit the Disney worlds.
The second game started great (Roxas was much better than Sora) but as soon as you would get Sora, that story was kinda forgotten until much later in the game. What made me go through the game was the Disney worlds once again (although they weren't nearly as good as in the first).
By the way, the Disney movies are still extremely popular. People have been growing with Disney characters in the past 50 years. They sure are not forgotten. The Final Fantasy characters are really nothing more than fan-service and way to get Japanese gamers to buy the games.
