So my receiver suck.  A lot.  It's nice because it upscales thingsto 702p  and can do 1080i and that's as high as my TV can go but sometimes the sound cuts out when switching from 720p television ti 1080i television, the volume controls don't always work, and it has just been pissing me off.

So I'm more than likely going to sell my current TV soon and I want to get a new receiver to prepare for it.  I already know I'm going to get a 1080p TV but I'm clueless to what receiver I should get it.

  • I have 5.1 sound but I wouldn't mind getting a 7.1 receiver so I can upgrade
  • I'm going to get a TV that can do 1080p
  • I'd like something that upscales to at least 720p, preferably 1080p if that's possible.
  • Things I have to connect to it: 360 (no HDMI though I might change that), Wii, PS3, and Verizon FioS cable.
  • It would be cool if I could get one that I connect my iPod to but isn't a requirement.
  • I want to buy the receiver first (since mine is a pain) so it needs to support my 720p/1080i TV

I was looking at this one.  It seems to have everything I want I guess but why are ones like this more than $1000 more?

I'd like to be cheap like the first one, but if the benefits of the more expensive one greatly outweigh the benefits of the cheaper one than I could put off getting a TV to getting one like that.
