Since corporations started spreading their propaganda to keep their $$ from being taken away by tax men.
It's basically corporate-America exploiting strong American patriotism (mainly due to the cold war. Thank you, Soviet Russia, you've been a blast, next time, we'll have dinner at your expense, yeah?).
