PS3 - Blu-Ray was a great excuse to buy a 1080p HDTV. Ever since, SD res is no longer acceptable. I'd like to say it was the games, but when I bought it back in Jan 2007, the only one worth playing was Resistance for the better part of the year. PS2 BC was actually worth having back then. Also, was a very impressive piece of kit on paper, regardless of how well it was or wasn't being used by developers.
Wii - the hype, the novelty of motion controls, which fell short of unrealistic expectations and Wii Sports. Fun to look for since it was never in stock anywhere, plus it was only $250. And of course, Zelda and Metroid.
360 - Wasn't interested in buying one until the library of games had many titles I was interested in playing. QC reports were a big turn off. After noting that all my favorite games on the platform were also available for Windows, I rebuilt a video editing/media rig into a gaming rig.
