Pssst.. The Jewish God and the Christian God are the same. ;) Just one happens to believe that a Jewish Carpenter/Community Organizer happened to be the son of God. The Bible didn't define it. They overtook the meaning of Marriage to fit their set standards of morals and what they believed it should be. The bible also supported slavery, should we go back and start up slavery again? The reason that this "fear" of gay marriage is because many are fearful of gays and feel uncomfortable as if some gay man will just jump them and rape them, and maybe they might just like it. I'm not gay myself and that lifestyle is something that I could never be a part of. But I have many friends who are and that doesn't diminish the fact that they are great people and deserve to show their happiness in their relationships by making a big committment to each other with marriage. In my state, if this appeared on the ballot, it would be banned in a heart beat because of all the homophobes and religious people that honestly are quit crazy. If religious people are so frightened of two people who are so in love getting married, maybe they are just what you claim they aren't. No matter how much they pray, they can't pray the gay away. Sadly, I get to see the worst of religious fruitcakes protesting to ban the rights of gays. I've seen the Phelps gang of the Westboro Baptist Church in this area far too often. They are not a church of love and understanding, but one of hate and discrimination.

Agree that Jewish God and Christian God are the same. I never said that they were different.
bible does define marriage - maybe not create it but defined it - with the standards and morals - like you said.
Slavery was a big part of society before Scripture, but you do have to agree that Scripture talks about fair treatment of slaves - and the rule to set them free in 7th year. Vastly more fair than the society at that time.
I don't know Christians are praying for gays to just go away - they are trying to preserve the meaning of marriage. Like I said, I voted "NO" on Prop. 8 but understand Christian's right to preserve their moral understanding of marriage. Do agree that some Christians go way overboard. but then so does some gay community - making it worse for their cause.
As far as divorce goes, the divorce rate is going down as more are being committed to marriage. I heard that 1st time divorce rate is down under 40%.
And according to Christianity today, devout religious people's (going to church weekly basis) divorce rate is under 30%.
Of course some Christians use fear - like if people just marry for LOVE, then what stops cousins to get married, or even brothers and sisters. These arguments don't work on me but I'm sure fear works on many people.
