You might be thinking of Pachters "75% of console sales are at $199 or less" bullshit... which is, well, bullshit because he basically used only the PS2 to figure this out. The PS3 is not the PS2.

I hate to disagree with you here. but lets look at the other side of the argument before dropping the final words on it.

The only consoles that sold for more than 200$:

[snip]

The problem here is it's still all bullshit. If the old console gens have anything in common with this gen, then you've got to factor in all similarities. In particular:

  • The leading console is almost always the weakest (NES, GB, PS1, PS2, DS, Wii).
  • Price drops have never given a significant increase in hardware sales.
  • The losing consoles tend to die off much quicker than the leading console (~5 years).

Suddenly the HD situation doesn't look so hot.

OT: It wouldn't do as well as you think. By the time it reaches that price, it will be old news.

If you're thinking, "imagine what the PS3 would sell like if it were $200-250 now," then it's meaningless. Imagine what the Wii would sell like if it were HD for the same price - far better.
