Here's a suggestion, buy a PS3, 360 or a good PC and compare.
The difference is CLEAR even on a standard TV.
I still consider Do Re Mi Fantasy on the SNES to be gorgeous, despite running at a mere 240p and on vastly outdated hardware. A game doesn't have to be on the latest and greatest to be beautiful, and this seems to be what you're ignoring.
