CrazzyMan said: mike_intellivision, yeah, the are differenece. so what? PS3 is selling 4,5 months less in Europe, then in other regions, so what? People still compare PS3 and x360 sales, and speak about difference between them. Actually by your comparison it is still more months in Europe for PS3. PS2 life Jan1st 2001: Jpn - 9.5months / Ame - 2.5mth / Eu - 1.5mth PS3 life Jan1st 2008: Jpn - 13 months / Ame -13.5mth / Eu - 9 months As you can see the only one even remotely comparable is Japan, but you just took Japan out of your recent post because it's the one where the PS3 fails the most compared to PS2 PS2 launched in March 2000. Was selling for 10 month. IF console selling less or more in some regions since it`s lifetime started, THIS doesn`t matter.PS3 launched in November 2006. Was selling for 1,5 month. 10 month of 2000 close to 1 year? YES. 1,5 month of 2006 close to 1 year? NO. 12 month of 2007 close to 1 year? YES. Overall: 2000 PS2 = 2007 PS3. 2001 PS2 = 2008 PS3. Like on Front page Console sales are compared/stated at THIS time. it doesn`t matter, that Wii and PS3 were launched later. And the comparison of PS3 now and 360 now has value for looking at what will happen in their respective futures, and what they are doing in respect to each other because they are competing. The comparison of PS2 to PS3 for those particular years has no value at all for predicting what the PS3 will do in the future, and there is no reason to compare how they are doing in respect to each other because the PS2 in 2001 was not competing with the PS3 now (not without breaking time). IF you don`t care about sales of Sony products - LEAVE this thread. I wonder, some people here are retarded or just don`t have reading skills...IF you are Sony hater - LEAVE this thread. IF you DON`T believe in PS3 success - LEAVE this thread. |
As I said above, the difference is what the comparison is useful for.
IF you compare the correct respective years of 2 consoles then you can use it to help predict future sales of one console..... this is not the case with your comparison.
IF you compare the sales of 2 consoles as they are competing against each other it can be useful too, but the PS2 didn't start competing with the PS3 until the PS3 launched, so this is also not the case with your comparison.

Oh and to the final part, I actually do care about the sales of Sony products, I am not a Sony hater, and success is relative, in that I believe the PS3 will be a success in terms of how well it competes with a juggernaut popular console like the Wii, in fact it looks like only the Genesis/Megadrive will have perfomed a better 2nd place (comparative to 1st). However I don't think the PS3 will be a success compared to PS2, nor will it be a success in terms of profit for Sony (alone, taking out what PS2/PSP are doing now)
