If you remove Japan, then PS3 (NA+EU) sales in 2008 = PS2 (NA+EU) sales in 2001, so far.

then PS2 in Japan,

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 10th Nov 2001 to 29th Dec 2001:

Console PS2
Japan
1,071,365

and last year PS3,

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 10th Nov 2007 to 29th Dec 2007:

Console PS3
Japan
405,182

And last year Japan didn`t have ALL PS3 80GB models bundled with GT5P Spec III, neither LBP bundles(which still have potential), and incoming PES2009 bundle + WKC on track.

removing Japan now... this is getting too much Crazzy... the whole reason people are laughing at the comparison you make in this thread is because you have used the difference in launch dates for different regions to compare the early sales of PS2 to much later sales of PS3.

2008 PS3 is not a valid comparison to 2001 for PS2 for reasons I have already mentioned a few pages back.

For instance, check out this point I made about PS2 attach ratio compared to Wii.... I compared the PS2 production shipment data up to September 2002 with the sales (to retail) data for the Wii up to September 2008.... that comparison actually gives the PS2 an advantage slightly because it roughly aligns launches for both consoles in America and Europe (to within a month) but gives the PS2 an 8 month lead in Japan. So it does give the PS2 a slight advantage (and it still loses out to Wii for attach ratio) but it's a lot more fair than if I compared Wii 2008 to PS2 2001.... which would seemingly show the Wii crushing PS2, but despite my bias toward Wii over Sony consoles I don't.
