Wasnt that being a bit (or extremely) harsh? to say cartoony grahics are it for the Wii is way harsh. yes, its graphics are not as good as the amazing xbox and PS3, but it still has good graphics. its still way better than any of the last gens, and i do not recall durring the last gens anyone saying, "these consoles shouldnt try and do real life stuff, and just stick with cartoony graphics. anything more is playing with FIRE!" No, no one would ever suggest that. and to say that Wiis graphics are outdated is stupid as well. they may not be AS GOOD AS 360 and PS3, but they are not that far behind and are still really good. some of you seem like you are trying to suggest nintendo went back to pixles. they still upgraded the graphics for their next gen console, (Wii) they just focused on the important stuff more. i.e: gameplay.
I don't see it as harsh. I see it as a stylistic direction. I think a Cartoony Game like Jet Grind Radio or the Wii DBZ game looks gorgeous. Those type of games will look the same if they utilized HD and were ported to the PS3. And as for gameplay, I don't know if a game like "wario ware" or "cooking mama" would be any better if it was on HD anyways.
And I will concede the point to you that the Wii has the potential to be at LEAST Xbox x 2 in terms of graphics and power. Just as Sony can't get into a price war with Nintendo or Microsoft, Nintendo shouldn't try to get into a graphics war with Sony. You might as well gracefully accept defeat in the graphics department and go and play with your Mii or something.
they are alreay outdated.
wii is dead in the next year and a half.
I'd say THAT is a bit harsh. Graphics aside, I'd personally rather be the company that's out pacing the competition by a ratio of 2:1 than the other way around.
I would argue that the Nintendo DS's graphics are N64 generation level graphics at best and it might go on to be the best selling system ever.... that is... if it ever beats the Gameboy, which sports like SNES level graphics!
____
and on to a sidepoint
The jump from NES to SNES was pretty significant, since the the NES laid the foundation for 2-d platformers and then the SNES perfected it. Then the jump from SNES to N64/PSX was huge too, they laid the foundation for 3D games to come. From there came the PS2/Gamecube/Xbox, and these consoles were powerful enough to essentially perfect the 3D genres (i.e. FPSes, Flight sims, etc.)
So is the jump to this current generation just the introduction of HD? Any new Genres or refinements to existing genres? For example, Gran Turismo HD will look fabulous on PS3, but won't it play exactly like it did for PS2? Contrast this with the fundamental jump from say, Super Mario Brothers to Mario 64?
