Despite the perception that there were only two candidates running for president, there were a few notable third-party candidates. While certain states are still counting ballots, the final vote count should not significantly change. Ralph Nader, and independent candidate, won 0.5% of the popular vote. The three states he performed best in were North Dakota, Maine, and Alaska. Bob Barr, the Libertarian nominee, won 0.4% of the popular vote. The three states he performed best in were Indiana and a three-way tie between Georgia, Texas, and Utah. In an interesting side note, Barr's support in Indiana may have contributed to McCain's narrow defeat in the state. Ron Paul, who was a candidate for the Republican nomination, received 2.2% of the vote in Montana and 0.5% of the vote in Louisiana.
