I remember an interview in Official XBox Magazine where Rare said:

(paraphrased) We like creating something different with every game.

They also mentioned that they arent gonna do another Viva Pinata for a long time, and that they want to test themselves creatively. They said that their fanbase is improtant ****but ultimately a minority****. They have to change it up and expand it. Sure some diehard fanboys will cry but thats tuff luck.

I think this quote from 50 cent agrees "50 told me go ahead and switch your style up, and if they hate than let em hate but watch the money pile up!"
