Tough choice, but I'd go with resistance first.
Resistance 2 has online and thus a learning curve specific to online, you don't want to rock up late to the party a month or so later and find everybody kicking your ass OR everybody getting bored of the online co-op missions so you have no one to play with.
From what I've seen/heard, Valkyria is single player only, so it'll still be the same game even if you pick it up a year from now, Resistance 2 won't be (online community may die off by then or maybe cod5 will dominate).
