I think you guys are confusing ethnocentricity with racism. 

A person from a recently oppressed and minority group voting for someone from their group because it symbolizes the change to a new era where their group has as much access to power as any other.  He also represents many of their interests.

or

A person not voing for someone because they are part of a minority group.

Is it really that hard to see the difference?
