That will have some ideas for input devices. I've browsed AVSforum for a while and haven't really seen a practical solution besides a wireless kb+mouse. They do have media center themed keyboards with integrated trackballs & touchpads which would eliminate the need for having 2 devices.
Gaming would most likely have to use the MS 360 Gamepad. It works with almost all newer games but some of the older games compatibility might be an issue.
Picking out a HTPC case is probably the most annoying part. I've been shopping for a case for a while now. My advice would be to just browse newegg and find one with features you like for a price you're wanting to spend. It's hard matching up a case with in your budget that has all the features you want and actually looks good.
