OK....let me first start off by stating that both games are phenomenal and excellent additions to both systems.  I wish I had a PS3 so that I could experience the awesomeness that is R2.  I will just have to go to a buddies house.  This thread is in no way an attack at either game.

It seems that the majority of people favor IGN as the least biased of the review sites out their.  IGN has recently reviewed both R2 and Gears 2.  Since so many R2 vs Gears 2 threads have been made prior to the review, I thought I would post the final comparisons.  Both games received an amazing score of 9.5.  Gears edged out R2 (9.5 vs 9.0) in Graphics, and Presentation.  Both tied in sound (9.0), as well as Gameplay and Lasting Appeal (9.5).  This holiday is great for PS3 owners and 360 owners......discuss!

 Gears 2

9.5

Presentation
The menus are very reminiscent of the original but the story is handed to the player in an entirely new way. Gears 2 stays at a very high quality throughout. New kill cams are very cool.

9.5

Graphics
Fantastic looking characters inhabit splendid worlds that feel truly alive. You’d be hard pressed to find a better looking game anywhere. Now if only they could fix the texture and framerate issues.

9.0

Sound
The sound effects bring you into the action perfectly and Jablonsky delivered on the score in a big way. Voice acting could use some work.

9.5

Gameplay
Some of the purest fun you’ll have. Instant gratification starts at level one and never lets up. It’s familiar for veterans of the first but throws in plenty to legitimize itself.

9.5

Lasting Appeal
Supposing they can fix the few multiplayer issues, there’s nothing stopping Gears 2 from ruling Xbox Live for some time to come. The photo mode is a great addition, too.

9.0

Presentation
A continuation of the launch title franchise, Resistance 2 continues the battle against the Chimera. Lack of a narrator does hamper some of the cohesiveness of the game, however.

9.0

Graphics
Resistance 2 does have some weird technical and visual glitches, but the sheer number of enemies on screen at once adds to the feeling of a massive battle for humanity.

9.0

Sound
Otherworldly sounds coupled with great voice acting and ambient effects heighten the action of the game.

9.5

Gameplay
Single-player is a great experience with an epic scale to the campaign, but adding co-op and competitive play within the game only serves to augment the overall gameplay.

9.5

Lasting Appeal
A fast paced 10 hour single-player campaign with multiple unlockables and difficulty levels are matched with extra multiplayer modes, gameplay options and community features.

9.5
