I agree with everything except point 4.
If point 4 were true, what happened in the N64, Gamecube era and what's happening the PS3 now?
Anyway, I think you missed a big one for point 1: Ipod and Macbooks. They're probably the biggest example of "IT" items.
Also, I think point 1 is the biggest reason. Because so many people buy it, much like the ipod and macbook (who, let's face it, if you've been using windows for the past ten years, is a bitch to get used to), it being complicated to play wouldn't matter.
I've had uncles and aunties try it just because another uncle/aunty did and they didn't want to seem dumb in comparison (for not being able to play it).
It is true: Wii, now everybody can play.
