If the MK franchise never took itself seriously, how can it be that it sold out as you claim? Even the greatest game in the series, MK 2 had all those -alities to parody itself. So an over-the-top game with such a silly premice is well within the grasp of MK. Anyway, in the next MK game they probably going to retcon the whole thing.
