looked a bit at ps2 shipped numbers compared to vgchartz sales for the last quarters
q1 2007 – sony shipped - 2.66 million
vgchartz sales – 2.3 million
q2 2007 - sony shipped - 3.28 million
vgchartz sales - 2.1 million
q3 2007 - sony shipped - 5.4 million
vgchartz sales – 4 million
q4 2007 - sony shipped - 2.4 million
vgchartz sales – 2.2 million
q1 2008 – sony shipped - 1.51 million
vgcharz – 1.41 million
q2 2008 – sony shipped 2.5 million
vgchartz 1.25 million
there is over a million more shipped ps2 in q2 and q3 2007 and also more than a million higher in q2 2008. i really doubt that all these 4 million ps2 difference between shipped and sales are still out on shelves (especially since the shipped number in last quarter was pointing up again). my guess is that ps2 sales last year are probably 2 million+ higher than vgchartz tracked it
