Afterall there had to be some sort of "time" before the universe for the universe to have been created for it to self create. Basically if there is no god it's likely this universe isn't the first and it isn't the last... as far as infinite imaginary time would go... it's the middle universe. As are all the others that have existed. Also, if there is a god. There is still a good chance that this is the case. |
I think you need to be a bit careful with your terms here. There is a difference between infinite and infinite past or infinite future. I believe you intended to discuss infinite vs finite past.
I don't think that a self created universe has to have an infinite or finite past. If the universe was created from nothing then it is finite but if it was created from the last incarnation of itself it can be infinite. In other words a universe the pops into existance and has infinite future or a universe that always was and continually explodes and implodes in cycles.
Your last line is one of my driving forces actually, let me repeat what I said earlier because I think many people skipped it.

When you want to understand how the universe was created, and you simply say "God did it" you don't really have an understanding of how it was made...you just know who did it. But science truly attempts to understand how it was made. But at the same time when you want to truly understand why we are here, to look to science and say "To perpetuate our species" you don't really understand why we are here, you understand our biological urges but the true meaning of life is something more deep and meaningful than a simple biological explanation of lust, and I would think most people would agree.

This is why I think there are two questions to be answered and some people find more truth in one than the other.
