No, what will happen is a group of Dems will get upset and convert to the GOP, for genuine reasons and for the opportunity they see - reforming the vision of the party and changing it's image.
Like Scoop Jackson in the post-FDR, Truman, Kennedy Days. (Hint: He pretty much created Neo-conservatism.)
I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.
