In my opinion the main problem with the XBox 360 is that it is not "inexpensive entertainment" and Microsoft isn't making much of an effort to make it "inexpensive entertainment" ... Last November Microsoft should have reduced the price of the XBox 360 to $300 and next May they should have dropped it to $200; at the rate they're going the XBox 360 will never be at a price where the average consumer will become interested in it. |
The prices you name are unrealistic at this point in the console's life given its starting point. But I do wish they'd make Xbox Live subscriptions free. That seems reasonable to me. And I think it'll really start hurting them in a year or two if they don't. |
Not really, the Gamecube dropped 1/4 of its price and the XBox dropped 1/3 of its price in the first 9 months; the PS2 dropped 1/3 of its price in the first 18 months. There is simply NO REASON (except incompetence) that Microsoft can only drop its console price by 1/8 after 18 months.
Dropping your consoles price by 1/4 after 12 months and 1/2 (in total) after 30 months is not unreasonable and should be expected.
