I originally bought a 20 GB PS3 at release and sold it on ebay to get a 60GB (because I had broken the screws to remove the hard drive and wanted the extra 60GB features anyway). I did this a year or so ago and paid around 400 bucks.
You can probably get either an 80GB motorstorm bundle (had BC), a 20GB release model (just buy a laptop drive with 500GBs of room for 80 bucks and replace the 20 GB drive) or a 60GB release model pretty easily for cheaper then the MGS bundle which is more or less the same thing.
Looking through ebay a bit I found several Backwards compatible systems for 400 dollars and under. A few had 419.99 buy it nows. You shouldn't have to pay any more then a new non BC one would cost.
