Reagan gets way more credit than he deserves. He was the one who turned the Republican Party into the abortion and gay marriage party rather than the fiscally conservative party.

Ya, but he would be rolling in his grave to see what has happened today. And, in his defense, I think his deficit was justified, it helped end the cold war along with the other circumstances. The thing thas it unforgivable for fiscal cons though, is after the war ended, the spending should have been massively decreased.

True, Regan didn't directly cause the current national debt problem we know face, but his progeny did following his example.

I think thats the problem. It was an extreme case that Reagen poured money in the defense budget, they should have been able to see that. I do not blame reagen for it. Remember, he cut alot of budget in his time as the gov of california (whether that was good or not is a matter of opinion and I won't go into it here) and I think that independent of the cold war, he would not have spent nearly as much. Bush though, could not see that. Especially the current one.

Our defense spending helped worry the USSR and aided in its collapse. But, spending does not have the same effect on terrorists, thus the strategy is bad. Judicous use of resources is how to win in the terror battle.
